Of all versions of this song, this is what I like best. The pianist makes me chuckle; reminds me of audition time in school. I like the girl's confidence in her performance.

Monday Mayhem: Ten Anyone? Meme

1. Why do you blog? I want my life in readable form

3. Name 4 of the best fiction books you've read. These are all I've ever read in recent memory: Pride and Prejudice, Da Vinci Code, Harry Potter, Twilight Saga

4. What are the 5 best movies ever made? (and that I love....) Sound of Music, Dead Poets Society, Harry Potter, Anne Shirley of Green Gables, Jane Austen movies

7. Tell us a unique and interesting fact about yourself. I once had a pink, pregnant buffalo

8. What do you love best about yourself? my metabolism

9. If you had a "Freaky Friday" experience, who would you change places with? Bella Swan

10. What is the best thing about being a woman. This is not mine. I'm borrowing a gay friend's observation - the best thing about a woman is her ability to use the power of her brains and vagina.

Sunday Stealing: The "I've Been Tagged" Meme

Today we ripped this meme of a blogger known as Kara at The Ramblings of a Marine Wife. We actually found the meme from Shius from the blog Addicted 2 Shius. Since this is a meme that has been going around for a while where you answer questions, and then add questions, we decided to use three sets. Kara explained that she was tagged by Life with the Lebedas. But it was probably stolen there as well. So, of course, that will be as far as we go. Tracing back our theft's thieves might take some time. Link back to us at Sunday Stealing!

Cheers to all of us thieves!

Butterfly Kiss

It's Friday and time for a look-back:

1. Paying attention to my nook on its wakey mode. Monday I arrived at work an hour early. Brown birds were chattering precociously on the still-empty parking lot. The gardener's dog was munching a rubber slipper behind the gate. The place smelt like it had never known pollution of any kind. I liked what I witnessed.

2. Multi-lingual multi-tasking:

- ears listening to an earphone song, nakalimutan mo na bang tumawa? (have you forgotten to laugh?)
- fingers composing a text message, nikaon na si CJ? (has CJ eaten yet?)
- eyes scanning a PR paper, "... government to mobilize resources for defense and military establishments"
- mouth clarifying instructions, mai ao tini; song akhan sippeht (I don't want it here. Send it to Bldg. 18)

*Three languages, one dialect lasting less than 3 minutes. I thought it was fun.

3. Apple pie with warm custard sauce; beef cheese tacos garnished with tomatoes and cilantro eaten over good conversation with a girl friend

4. A friend emailed how his little relatives 'came tearing through his house unannounced.' The upside was getting a butterfly kiss from 3-year old Olivia.

5. Bonus at the hair saloon. I was there for a routine shampoo and blow dry. But a saloon professional went the extra mile by giving me a head massage as well.

For more or to join, head over to Susanne's Living to Tell the Story.

Disney Magic

Relying almost entirely on milk and unless starving, CJ doesn't eat. So when I witness moments like this, I feel relieved. His recent snack choice is kechup or soy sauce. To make him eat something healthy I try these strategies simultaneously: coax, beg, threaten, set an example by eating the food myself or bribe.

"I'll let you play all you want with Winnie the Pooh, Lion King and Mickey Mouse if you eat," goes the motivating factor behind this episode. Ibbity-Bobbity Boo! a little mouth opens wide.

For a picky eater, this bite looks big enough to last him til the next snack time.

Snacks going on at the Mommy Journey.

Life goes on

Our Weekend Memoirs: Marang
Scroll down a bit for Sunday Stealing

My former Education boss passes away. A couple of meters from the little church where her funeral was held, a wee stand of marangs beckons the wanderer in me.

Only in da Pilipins. Pinoys often say or hear that phrase. I'm not sure where else does this fruit exist.

The cortege inches out of the church yard. I whisper, "bye, Ma'am Arcon" and negotiate (read: haggle) the price of one of these marangs.

Sunday Stealing: The Threesome Meme
Scroll up a bit for Our Weekend Memoirs

Welcome back to Sunday Stealing. Sunday Stealing originated on WTIT: The Blog authored by Bud Weiser. Here we will steal all types of memes from every corner of the blogosphere. Our promise to you is that we will work hard to find the most interesting and intelligent memes. You may have heard of the expression, “honor amongst thieves”. In that age-old tradition, we also have our rules. First, we always credit the blog that we stole it from and we will “fess up” to the blog owner where we stole the meme. We also provide a link to the victim's post. (It's our way of saying "Thanks!") We do sometimes edit the original meme, usually to make it more relevant to our global players, to challenge our players, sometimes to select that meme's best questions, or simply to make it less repetitive from either this new meme or recently asked questions from a prior featured meme. Let's go!!

Today we ripped this meme from three people! The first eight questions were ripped from a blogger and blog called Foxymoron (left). She explains that she stole it from The Harridan. The second part of this meme was written by some blog buddies of ours since WTIT: The Blog first published in '06. Mr Lance (right) from Solitary Views and Frank (bellow) from Foxxfyrrer's Honk 'n' Holl'r! They decided to do a “two blogs meme” by asking each other 5 questions each. One question they actually never even asked! It was because Frank's mom reads his blog and apparently the question was a bit racy. (See the post by clicking here. It's full of funny schtick.) We left one question out since it was really asked twice. Link back to us at Sunday Stealing!

Cheers to all of us thieves!

8. Where do you see yourself five years from now? this again; but ok, anywhere as long I'm happy

9. If you had the choice of any talent with the penalty that you would lose a talent in exchange, what would you want to gain, and what would you be willing to lose? persuasion skill - getting anything more than I need

11. Of all of the people out there who would have been your fantasy date? Date, not romance... an ala-Jacob Black shapeshifter my age

12. Google put another spell on you, you have just changed genders for 48 hours... what are you going to do with your 2 days? behave accordingly

13. If you owned your own island, and got to make it your own country, what would you call it? And why? Isle Stasia

14. If you rubbed the lamp and got 3 wishes, what would they be? world travel, 3-year apprenticeship under one research scientist I admire and long-term residence in a snug cottage

15. What is your earliest memory of puberty? thought, so this is it huh...

From the land of castles and crumpets

Less than 24 hours after sharing last week's highlights, my next set of faves was guaranteed. And weekend wasn't even over yet. I don't know what I did to deserve it but I'm thankful -

1. Church. I went. Really. A friend suggested it and I made a snap decision to go. Something became clear to me again: the reason I insist on having a day off work in a week is to calm down from it all. No matter how seldom, it's good to recharge spiritual batteries.

2. Hearty lunch at an elegant Thai restaurant with an international menu. We had lasagna, avocado salad with cantaloupe in oil and vinegar dressing, banoffee cheesecake, etc. The bonus? Stairs up for grabs: cost effective for calorie-burning.

3. Dasa is a second-hand book store with a coffee shop on its second floor. There were several titles I liked. It's gonna be a new haunt certainly.

4. Peterson Gallery. Priced from $2,000 to $163,000 - pianos galore! Once in awhile I wander into places like this. And I fancy another trip.

5. A call from the land of castles and crumpets. It came over dinner of fried noodles, chicken and shitake mushroom. While sipping my kiwi juice, an earlier mix-up of numbers was affectionately explained to me. Twas a sweet ending to a perfect beginning of a fab week.

A little boy's tiara

It's a week abundant with life's little pleasures, and I'm enjoying such a great Friday mood with the FFF ladies over at Susanne's Living to Tell the Story. If you are dropping by from Mommy Moments, please scroll down a bit; thank you. Now the highlights of my week --

1. Birthday dinner at Cabbages and Condoms. A friend put up with my fondness for dining out and exploring restaurants. C & C supports social development programs of the PDA, an organization that complements the Thai government's effort to promote family planning.

2. Cafe de Tu. We took the sky train to get to a posh mall for dessert. There's a lovely ambience for a slice of chocolate banana cake and a long glass of iced lemon tea. It was sheer relaxation verbalizing ephemeral wishes. From the high ceiling pretty lamps cast off a warm, soft glow making the place conducive for twilight dreams.

3. Work over lunch at Fuji. Now comes a hard, raw bit. I had to carry work to one lunch but it helped that I like Japanese cuisine and cracked 80% of the job right there on the table. Thanks to the Giver of blessings: the untouched 20% spared me indigestion issues.

4."Everything smells so fresh after a storm." It's been raining on my nook. I've been musing over these words from one of my favorite films, Ladies in Lavender, starred in by two of my favorite actresses, Judi Dench and Maggie Smith.

5. Mommy Moments. This is a brief account of some of my fave moments with CJ, integrated as my fifth Friday fave and entry for today's Mommy Moments theme, Wacky right below -

As I lamented CJ's stance against being photographed, I realized that my constant attempts to click away anyway have gained a few wacky results.

On board a yacht in Hong Kong, a weary single mom was hoping to experience a lovely night watching the famous Symphony of Lights while cruising Victoria Bay. Soft music, butter cake, mint tea, silver strappy heels, it was her moment.

Fat chance. A little brat decided to grab her crowning glory.

That's how my tiara ended up on his head...

It made me determined to snap more shots. But at The Peak the next day, CJ's stance didn't waver. Well, they say if you can't beat them, join them. I did and with Auntie Chette's perfect timing, we got this moment together.

Majorly Personal

Our Weekend Memoirs: When old maids meet
Please scroll down for Sunday Stealing

A friend on the other side of the world mentioned this place. I discovered it's right down my backyard when I googled it. Since a co-old maid was game for a little exploration we went there last night. The name of this restaurant is apparently its most attractive feature.

We punctuated the food with conservative-wild observations of 21st century old maidenhood. Ah, there's my Screwdriver. Reliable in penetration.

"Don't these things come with a man?," we teased the server who gave us condoms instead of the usual mint candies after we settled the bill.

Sunday Stealing: The Majorly Personal Meme, Part The Last
Please scroll up for Our Weekend Memoirs

Today we ripped this meme off a blog that is written by a group of high school students. The blog is called Eternal Fireworks. The writers are: Michael, Kynan, Alex, Kenny, Chris, Leo, Shelley, Athy, Bam, Tina, and Bnita. There is no statement as to where it came from. But, it was probably stolen there as well. So, of course, that will be as far as we go. Tracing back our theft's thieves might take some time. It is a long meme and we shall do it in parts. Cheers to all of us thieves!

41. What are your plans for this weekend? Saturday I had dinner with a friend at Cabbages and Condoms, and today I am bracing for machineless marking of university exams

42. Do you think someone might be thinking poorly about you? Why might that be? I don't know and I don't care. My life is good.

42. What features don't you have that you would like on your cell? umm... speech bubble that blinks "to be paroled in a heart beat"

48. Would you, (or did you) prefer a small, intimate wedding reception, or a big-scale, over-the-top reception? The Thai flag was waving at the in-laws' residence during my wedding reception. I didn't know 95% of the guests. So I'll try intimate if I ever attempt the institution again, and I'll have veto power on everything including the groom's color socks

49. What’s bothering you right now? my laundry

50. Do you hate anyone? I don't care

51. What were you doing at 12 am last night? re-reading Breaking Dawn

52. Is the last person you kissed before your current situation mad at you? the last person I kissed does not impact my current situation

53. Can a man and woman be friends without having feelings for each other? why are 'feelings' always assumed in a man-woman friendship?

54. Do you think long distance relationships work? If you’ve had one, tell us about it. It depends upon what long-distance entails

55. Do you know why it’s called “Random Boredom“? no time to research; laundry is still piled up

56. Do you think that it’s always the man’s responsibility to initiate sex? no

57. Have you ever made love while you were in the same room with another couple? no

58. Tell us the best thing about your current or most recent S/O. revolutionary zeal for his beliefs

59. Tell us the worst thing about your current or most recent S/O. unmatched pigheadedness

60. Would you write one question in today’s comments so that we could have our followers allow us to steal their questions? We’ll need at least 15. When should you procrastinate - now or later?

This I give to you (pamana) and birthday week highlights

This is a 2-in-1 post today. I sort of incorporated the contents as they are related and fall into similar concepts for both memes which are equally significant to me. If you are dropping by from Mommy Moments, please scroll down. Thanks. Friday's Fave Five, hosted by Susanne at Living to Tell the Story is right next -

It's probably a matter of orientation: I am used to uneventful birthdays. What I'm not used to is missing a few things. But I didn't and this week's faves are about what I'm thankful for the most:

1. Monday which was the day came and went peacefully. No issues at work, I ate what I wanted to eat, did a little shopping and I easily found the 'celebration' restaurant for tomorrow. I'm excited.

2. Greetings from good friends. I didn't expect anyone to call or email but they did and I appreciate that.

3. A promise in the sky, woot! See heaven's kiss on earth to boot.

4. Ticket to David Foster and Friends concert in October purchased with a 10% discount. My seat is not too close to the stage that I'd be having Peter Cetera's heels on my nostrils, and not too far that I'd be squinching for Natalie Cole's facial expression. I'm anticipating a lovely night with the Canadian Tenors, Ben Studdard and The Hitman himself.

5. Cj's progress. This has to be my best birthday present. While watching a second cousin fix my mother's dog's leash, he uttered, "oh, it's entangled." The other report is that he sang Into my heart and Bayang Magiliw (national anthem) by himself last night. He also minded his homework which involved reading. I like the reading part. Selective mutism now sounds a bit less daunting. Celebrating my birthday tomorrow will be yummier.

***********************

No, I'm not bequeathing my son a bookstore. Although the idea is wonderful and if I owned one he'd naturally inherit it when I'm gone. As I am no rich Mama, Cj will just have to settle on books that I am accumulating. One goal is to instill in him a love for reading.

Not very long ago, my ex went pensive on me, "If I die suddenly there's --- for Cj from my ---. The lawyers will sort it out." I thought of the divorce mess that Cj is caught in and quietly realized, "no hon, you go pray to your Buddha while I drop on my knees to my own God and hope that our kid develops faith in a power that will help him rise above this adversity we caused him."

A long shot, I know. But despite the setback I'm banking on the value of non-material things for Cj to live a happy life he deserves.

Anus Envy

Monday was not bad. Technology did 95% of my job and I was paid for warming a high-back swivel chair in a lab full of computer geeks. When I started noticing how 'alien' their language is to me, I explored their dictionary. These are 13 of what made me go like, oh, I see then is that so?... and in between, what? --

1. glambassador
a diplomat selected for his or her celebrity and appearance, not for any particular knowledge of foreign policy or international affairs. For example, "Linda Gray of TV's Dallas was just made goodwill glambassador for the U.N. Population Fund."

2. gutenburg
a person who insists on printing out everything available onscreen. "Keith is such a gutenberg. He printed out a 150-page manual just to read a few sections of it."

3. leetspeak
a.k.a. leet, lite, elite, eleet, 1337, 3l337, l33t, 3l33t
Leetspeak, or "leet" for short, is a type of online jargon in which a computer user replaces regular letters with other keyboard characters to form words phonetically. Though it was originally used by hackers and gamers ("leet" is a vernacular form of "elite"), leet is moving into the Internet mainstream and is also used by millennials.

4. QCD
Quarterly Charm Deficiency
an emotional disorder that arises in executives at the end of each fiscal quarter

5. anus envy
slang for the practice by fans of The Jerky Boys, Howard Stern, Rush Limbaugh, and others of trying to emulate - or outdo - their idols.

6. teergrube
German for "tar pit" this term refers to a server specifically designed to slow down spammers.

7. extremophile
slang for an organism that can live in conditions of heat, radiation, or toxicity normally considered inhospitable to life

8. kodak courage
slang for an extra dose of courage and the tendency to go beyond one's usual physical limits when being filmed or photographed (from action sports such as skateboarding, snowboarding, and extreme skiing).

9. angry garden salad
slang for a poorly designed Web site GUI with incorrect code behind it (so that if you click on one thing it launches another).

10. hacker ethic
